“Working with Nirvana has been a breath of fresh air. I’m new to the trucking industry and the safety platform has been so helpful. Any carrier considering Nirvana should absolutely onboard especially for the safety aspect.” Yasmin Ali – Safety Manager, Gabose Trucking

Founded by friends in 2010, Gabose Trucking was initially a two-person operation. Over time, Gabose has grown into a fleet of 18 trucks, all of which are owner-operated.

Ensuring safety standards for a fleet can be challenging, especially when safety data isn’t always readily available. While the Gabose team’s safety record was good, they learned the hard way that it only takes one driver to negatively impact their DOT safety scores. Because Gabose’s drivers aren’t all proficient English speakers, the threat of getting pulled over for a DOT inspection was scary for many. They knew they had to get proactive when it came to creating a culture of safety across the business. Once they did, the Gabose team was able to improve their safety standards significantly.

Forging a safety-focused partnership with Nirvana

Prior to partnering with Nirvana, the Gabose team used the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) website to check their violations. However, the FMCSA website provided scant details and the Gabose team wanted more visibility into their fleet’s driving behaviors and safety in real time.

At the same time, there was one Gabose truck that kept racking up violations, and nobody was keeping track of it. It was a driver with an older truck that kept breaking down on him and as a result, Gabose was getting “slammed” with DOT violations. It was important for Gabose’s leadership to teach drivers that every violation that occurs is then reflected in the business’ DOT score. Using data from Nirvana to understand why this driver was racking up violations allowed the Gabose team to intervene and make a much-needed change.

What drew Gabose to Nirvana was the safety platform, which provides carriers with a clearer picture of their drivers’ performance and whereabouts.

“With Nirvana, I can access insights about which regions my drivers receive violations in, the types of violations they receive, whether my drivers are going faster than usual, and suggestions for preventing these violations in the future.”

Gabose appreciates Nirvana’s ability to provide immediate access to a real-time snapshot of driver behavior, complete with detailed insights and data visualizations. Nirvana’s proprietary risk models inform the platform’s AI-powered recommendations. The platform’s advanced analytics quickly uncover risk areas so fleets can proactively improve their CSA scores.

“Since making changes based on recommendations from the Nirvana Safety Platform, we’ve seen tremendous improvements in our drivers’ safety performance.”

Partnering with Nirvana has given the Gabose team the tool they needed to pull safety metrics and implement powerful change based on the data.

Unlocking fleet insights with the Nirvana Safety Platform

Gabose accesses monthly driver behavior reports through the Nirvana Safety Platform. The Gabose team appreciates these data-dense documents and the unique ability to zero in on one small slice of driver data at a time, allowing them to get as granular as they want, something most safety reports fail to offer.

“With the Nirvana Safety Platform, we don’t have to look at a big-picture set of data; we can see what we need at any given moment. We just click on the geographical area, driver, and vehicle we want to focus on and get all the insights we need in one quick, reliable, and easy-to-use tool.”

The Gabose team uses the platform to view the company’s safety report daily, using it to provide immediate feedback to drivers so they can make & track changes in real time.

“It’s much easier to see all our safety data in one spot, rather than sifting through driver logs. Instead of giving drivers subjective feedback, it’s better to show them the indisputable data about how we’re doing and which safety areas can be improved.”

The Gabose team also shares the safety platform results with its drivers directly, who get a chance to engage with the platform during monthly company data & performance reviews, with access to real-time insights and action steps they can start implementing right away.

Proactively fixing safety issues has also improved driver satisfaction. Gabose rewards drivers with safe - driving incentives and this has also helped to improve driver retention, motivation, and happiness. Their incentives program combined with the proactive safety and driver insights they receive from the Nirvana’s Safety Platform have enabled the Gabose team to improve their safety standards significantly.

“When our drivers pass inspections, we give them monetary rewards. They happily participate in our incentives program and they’re now more on top of meeting safety requirements and avoiding violations. Ultimately, our safety measures are in place to keep our business, our drivers, and others safe on the road. We’re glad to have access to a tool like the Nirvana Safety Platform to help shape our safety program and related business decisions.”
