The first annual Nirvana Insurance Hackathon 2025 was nothing short of incredible— 48 hours of intense collaboration, coding, problem-solving, and innovation. The Hackathon brought together teams from across the globe to push the boundaries of what's possible in commercial insurance.

Unlocking bold ideas to transform insurtech
At Nirvana, we thrive on innovation. Our Hackathon was designed to give teams the space to step away from their usual work, take bold risks, and experiment with new ideas that could transform the way we serve fleets and agents. With a mix of AI-driven solutions, data analytics, and end-user experience, participants tackled real challenges that have the potential to shape the future of commercial insurance and insurtech.

Bringing teams together for maximum impact
Teams from San Francisco, Santiago, and Bengaluru, along with remote participants, kicked off the event across six time zones. Whether in person or online, 50+ participants were ready to brainstorm, build, and bring their ideas to life. This year’s key Hackathon themes included:
The future of insurance with AI: We didn’t just imagine the future—we saw it come to life! AI-driven models redefined insurance, predicting risks in real-time, automating claims with precision, and crafting seamless user experiences.
Data analytics in action: We witnessed data analytics push the boundaries of insurance. Teams leveraged new data sources and the existing 20 billion miles of telematics data to refine underwriting and risk assessment, turning raw information into powerful insights.
Revolutionizing customer-centric innovations: Our company values (#ObsessOverCustomer) was in action as a few teams built solutions to enhance the experience for fleets and agents.
Empowering developers: At the Hackathon, we didn’t just build cutting-edge solutions that only redefined fleet insurance but also enhanced the lives of our most valued asset— our people.
Throughout the 48 hours, teams worked in dedicated spaces, joined advisor sessions with peers who offered valuable product insights, and leaned on one another to refine their projects.

Recognizing innovation & impact
After two days of non-stop coding & collaboration, excessive caffeine consumption, too much pizza, lots of swag, jamming to the Nirvana Hackathon Spotify playlist, and tons of memories, teams submitted their final projects. Each group only had five minutes to present their work to their peers and a panel of judges composed of Nirvana’s co-founders and investors.
The competition was fierce, but three teams stood out:
Judge’s Choice for Most Innovative Project – Team Drive to Survive: Tanzeem Ahmed, Mayank Harjani, Abhay Kumar, Prabhnoor Saluja, Arnab Sarmah, & Manan Singh
Project Drive to Safety: safest route navigation for drivers
Judge’s Choice for Most Impactful Project – Team Adjust ‘n Chill: Ayush Agarwal, Nishant Gupta, Akhilesh Koppineni, & Sanket Rathi
Project Justin Claimberlake: AI powered claims adjustment
People’s Choice Award – Team Mission Insurepossible: Olivia Cartwright, Jigar Chavada, Sandra Creason, Harsh Goel, Ash Harris, Amanda Hensel, Naman Mehrotra, & Ilana Slutsky
Project UW Renewal Agent: streamline and standardize renewals decision algorithm
Congratulations to the winners who displayed grit, curiosity, and leadership in getting a high quality project together in just two days!

Turning ideas into real-world solutions
While the prizes were exciting, the real success of the Hackathon wasn’t just in the winning projects, but in the collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving mindset that emerged. Our teams brainstormed a list of 70+ net new ideas and executed on 15 of them. Many of the ideas pitched have the potential to evolve into real-world solutions that could drive efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the overall customer experience.
In fact, our "Obsess Over Customers" company value was demonstrated by Team NoUI (Felipe Cristobal, Patricio Daher, Greg Hogan, Saundarya Khatri & Sanket Rathi), who was also the runner-up for the People’s Choice Award, when they got on a call with a customer and demoed their Hackathon project the same day it was created. The customer loved the innovative feature and loved being included in the company Hackathon, so it was a win all around.
From AI-powered underwriting enhancements to seamless automation tools, the projects from this Hackathon showcased what’s possible when we bring together bright minds with a shared mission. While the Hackathon is over, the ideas don’t stop here. Some projects are already being evaluated for future development, and we can’t wait to see how they evolve.
Ultimately, this event wouldn't have been possible without the incredible participation of Nirvanians from such a wide array of teams coming together and bringing their diverse experiences, energy, and ideas to the table. Thank you to all our organizers (Joaquin Moreira, Varsha Debnath, Huma Hafeez), participants, mentors, and tech support team, and especially to our judges and investors for their insightful evaluation and support, which were crucial to ensuring the event’s success.
Until next year’s Hackathon, our team will continue innovating, building, and making the fleet insurance experience better for our customers and agents.
